What is tahini?
Tahini is a paste of ground sesame seeds and the base of hummus, halva and many Levantine sauces. Sesame must be declared as an allergen in the US, the UK, the EU and the Gulf; in the US it became the ninth major allergen on 1 January 2023. A pack can name tahini in one language and sesame in the other, so the two sides of a bilingual label are worth comparing.
